Minimum Requirements

  • California POST Intermediate Certificate
  • Minimum of 3 years of criminal investigative experience* (full-time specialized experience as an Investigator or Detective preferred)
  • College degree is desirable

Process

Application

Testing Day

Applicants that meet the minimum requirements will be invited to participate in a 3-1 streamline process. Three phases of the testing process will take place all in one day and consist of a group test, written test, and panel interview.

Assistant Chiefs' Oral Interview

An oral interview with the Bureau of Investigation Assistant Chiefs is the next phase of the process for those who successfully pass the initial testing process.

Background Process

A conditional offer of employment will be given to those who successfully complete the previous steps with passing ratings. Acceptance of the offer will initiate the background investigation process.

Chief's Oral Interview

The final step in the process after successful completion of the background investigation is an oral interview with the Chief of the Bureau of Investigation.
